The Second City

Iceland's second largest city, Akyureri (clocking in with a population of less than 18,000 people) felt like a bustling metropolis after spending weeks kamping around Iceland's west fjords.

After two weeks in the isolated west, we decided to spend several days basking in the humanity, culture, and creativity of Akureyri.
Mush!
One afternoon, we spent a lot of time chatting with the man who's wife owns this shop, and we encourage anyone in or visiting the area to go there immediately to peruse and purchase their wares. So much goodness in a tiny little space.
Icelandic people struck me as shockingly free to explore and experiment with their surroundings, stringing strips of fabric down the main street into town
and hanging a selection of giant dresses via crane
Apparently, there is a group of middle aged women who periodically create large public installations of art for the Akureyrians
Is it art?

 We climbed up to Akureyrarkirkja
Learned how to discipline
And saw the fellow below, who had been screaming in German very early that morning at our campsite.
Melissa points to the miniature kirkja inside the big kirkja.
